We met some friends @ davis Farmland and then back to their home for a cookout. Griffin enjoyed playing with so many CWDs (Children With Diabetes)

Healthcare Reform

A few reasons that I support health care reform in the US.

I have a 6 yo son who was diagnosed with T1 diabetes at 18 months old. Under the current system, he is shut out from the individual insurance market *period*. Luckily, we're an upper middle class family that has great coverage with 2 parents working so that when my husband was out of work for a year, there was no lapse in Griffin's coverage. Luckily, we live in Massachusetts which has good programs for coverage of children.

I think a lot about the unlucky children. Born with or diagnosed at a young age with chronic illnesses in families with lesser means and in less generous states.

I hear Republicans gleefully blocking any healthcare reform and I wonder what they think of these children. The United States that I grew up in was not a place where people turned their backs on those less fortunate than themselves. It was a country founded on equal opportunity, a country based on innovation and ambition. Now I see a country of people afraid to start businesses because of concerns about healthcare. I see people who could be contributing to the economy bankrupted because they have been cut out of the healthcare system through pure bad luck.

I know that the Democratic plan is full of holes, but I support it because it is the only way forward. I'm begging my Republican friends to reconsider their position on this issue.
